One of the all time great museums, the Henry Ford is a wonderful adventure for everyone-no matter what their interests. Like cars and planes? Perfect-since the museum has models from the very beginning of the auto industry as well as numerous planes from early on until now with a few trains thrown in as well. Want to see the chair Abraham Lincoln was sitting in when he was assassinated? That's here too. The Henry Ford is a history destination designed to bring the American Experience to life by offering informative and intriguing exhibits, demonstrations, programs and reenactments. The museum has five distinct attractions from the indoor museum known as the Henry Ford which showcases the people and ideas that have changed our lives (that's where you'll find the cars and the chair and all sorts of other stuff) to the fantastic Greenfield Village with several other must see museums as well.
Once you've visited the Henry Ford, take a stroll outside to the 90-acre plus Greenfield Village. Auto magnate Henry Ford was so determined to preserve history that he bought the actual homes and businesses that once flourished in America including Thomas Edison's laboratory. When you stroll through Greenfield Village, it's like strolling through this country's past.
The Benson Ford Research Center houses an open treasury of research, historical expertise and unparalleled collections documenting the American Experience-something Ford thought was important for people to know and have access to. Included are the Ford Motor Company Historical Archives from 1903-1955, as well as a nationally significant collection of business records, automotive product literature and periodicals, manuscripts, photographs, prints, postcards, maps, trade catalogs, early American dictionaries, and other library and special collection material.
Then there's the Ford Rouge Factory Tour which takes visitors on a firsthand journey through the place where American automotive manufacturing as we know it first began. It was here that Henry Ford had the first Model T made and it was also here, decades later, that the Ford Mustang was developed and manufactured.
The Henry Ford IMAX Theater is a great place to see current releases, cinema classics and feature-length documentaries on this larger than life screen with sense-surrounding detail.
