Famous in the early half of the last century, author, sportswriter and humorist Ring Lardner was know for his sardonic wit and common folk way of writing. Lardner, who was compared favorably to Mark Twain, was born in the house across the street from 519 Bond Street in Niles on March 6, 1885 and began his career writing about sporting events for the Niles Sun.
