What is the Detroit Festival of Books?

The Detroit Festival of Books is the first ever used & rare books festival in the City of Detroit. 

The Detroit Festival of Books (aka: the Detroit Bookfest) is a goodwill effort to help generate a deeper love and appreciation of books in the Greater Detroit community. 

This event is mostly indoors and partially outdoors and will be held rain or shine. 

Vendors keep 100% of their proceeds!

What is the cost of admission? 
Admission is FREE and open to the general public!

Who is organizing it?
The Book Club of Detroit is organizing this event with generous assistance from Eastern Market, the City of Detroit, KDZ Consulting, Margrave Pictures, and several community leaders. 

Founded in 1957, the Book Club of Detroit is a group of 150+ rare book collectors who like to get together for drinks and literary-related events. 

The Book Club of Detroit is a non-profit organization of bibliophiles and is widely regarded as one of the top clubs in the USA for book collectors. 

How about parking?
There is a variety of free and metered street parking, paid lots and more around the Eastern Market district. There is also a free parking structure next to Eastern Market.

Are there bathrooms?
Yes! There are men’s and women’s bathrooms inside Shed 5 at each end of the building. 

What is Eastern Market?
Opened in 1891, Eastern Market is the largest historic public market in the United States. 

Featuring 43 acres of space, Eastern Market is comprised of a series of indoor and outdoor sheds which function as consumer markets that currently average 40,000 weekly weekday visitors and 45,000 people on Saturday’s alone. 

We will be located inside Shed 5, which is 22,000-square feet. Shed 5 has four bathrooms, 7 large garage door-walls on the north and south sides of the building, and 6 huge industrial ceiling fans. Shed 5 is the northernmost of the sheds, located on Russell Street between Alfred and Williams. 

Will there be music? 

Yes, one of Detroit’s best veteran producers named DJ Zig-Zag will be spinning a variety of funk, jazz, psychedelic Brazilian and more. 

Will there be beer?
Yes! Beer will be provided for a charge to 21 and uppers courtesy of Mark Harper’s Black Lotus Brewery. 

Black Lotus Brewing Co. is especially known for their Detroit Hip Hops IPA and their Ninja Pirate strong ale (World Beer Cup gold medal winner). 

Will there be food?
Yes, there will be a variety of vendors selling food from their mobile kitchens and trucks

If you are interested in being a food vendor, please fill out the Vendor Application form. 

Who can be a vendor?
People from the general community who want to sell used books, rare books, etc. 

Also, individuals who want to sell used vinyl LP records, unusual items and non-corporate local companies are invited to participate.

What is the cost to be a Vendor?
The cost to rent a 6-foot table is only $20.00 per table. 
VERY CHEAP compared to other events. 
You must supply your own chairs. 
Vendors, you keep 100% of your proceeds!
